The American Federation of Teachers is an affiliated labor union of the AFT-CIO. With headquarters in Washington, DC, the AFT represents 1.5 million pre-K through 12th-grade teachers; paraprofessionals and other school-related personnel; higher education faculty and professional staff; state and local government employees; nurses and healthcare workers; and early childhood educators.
CCD worked with management, staff, subcontractors, and IT staff to design a database in Microsoft Access to store employee leave data. We participated in all phases of project planning, programming, implementation, and training. CCD worked closely with manager of the Human Resources Department to customize all aspects of the system, from data structure to data entry, reports, and archiving. Hundreds of business rules were incorporated to track Vacation, Personal, Incentive, Floating Holiday, and Sick leaves and to make the system consistent with versions of the contract agreement between AFT and one of their labor unions. We implemented the final product on a shared network with several levels of security. After implementation, we linked several other databases to the main database to provide modularity of data organization and to track arrival/departure times and overtime. CCD wrote the manual for the entire system. To improve performance, AFT asked CCD to Subsequently convert the sign-in system to a hybrid Microsoft Access / Visual Basic / SQL Server system.
In 2006 CCD was asked to work with a team of other vendors to implement the HROffice system (built on SQL Server ) at AFT and integrate HROffice with the existing Leave and sign-in systems. This integrated system continues to work and is in place today.
